BodyTalk: History and Background
The BodyTalk System was developed in the 1990s by Dr. John Veltheim, an Australian chiropractor, acupuncturist, philosopher and author. Currently based in United States, The BodyTalk system has grown exponentially and is now practiced by thousands of practitioners worldwide.
Unique Features of BodyTalk
Quantum Integrative Healthcare
There have been attempts to establish a Quantum Medicine, but it was not until BodyTalk that the discoveries in Quantum physics became part of the daily reality of many healthcare practitioners and their patients.
~ James Oschman, PhD
Personally, this is what holds my attention when it comes to BodyTalk. The ancient rishis of India have talked of the quantum concepts in Advaita for centuries. Now, science has come a full circle. Though, I don't understand the science behind the quantum science, I can relate to these concepts that are embedded in BodyTalk philosophy.
- Observer Effect: The act of observation changes the observed. Science proves it with the double-slit experiment. Advaita says, the act of observation changes the observer as well. In BodyTalk, a session has an impact both on the client, any observers (why group sessions work so well) and the practitioner.
- Quantum Entanglement: Spooky Action at a distance is what seems to happen when a session takes place whenever a client is away at a distance - with or without modern tele-communications devices. !!
- Collapsing the wave: I must say that I don't understand the details of the science here. My understanding is functional. When quantum physics states that a wave and particle can both be possibilities until the wave is collapsed, what I understand in my practice is any outcome for a client is possible. When the client's innate readiness meets the practitioner's openness to all outcomes, that wave can be collapsed.
- Space Time construct: I grew up with stories of cyclical time and how time in the Brahma Loka (world of Brahma) is different from time on earth. In my practice, there iare many sessions when there is no linear time. Shifting time to the past to heal emotions / trauma of the past can help the person shift their present easily.
Dynamic Systems
The body is made up of 70 trillion cells in constant communication. Each system, cell, and atom of the body is in constant communication with each other.
Our body is not a collection of parts but a series of systems working together as a whole. When we have a health challenge, it is not because a part has broken down. Rather, it is the communication between the systems that has been compromised. BodyTalk focuses on restoring the communication. When the communication lines are restored, our body, that has miraculous, self-healing capacity can heal itself.
Consciousness Based Modality
Consciousness cannot be accounted for in physical terms. For consciousness is absolutely fundamental. It cannot be accounted for in terms of anything else.
~ Erwin Schrodinger.
Everything we see has consciousness. Each cell has a consciousness that allows it to live out its destiny. Each tissue, each organ, each system in the body has its own consciousness that acts as its blueprint. We live in a world where every being, everything around us have their own aspect of consciousness. Collectively, we all form the Universal consciousness. The best way to understand this is to look at a balloon. The air inside the balloon is part of the balloon's existence. It is the balloon's consciousness even though it exists in the atmosphere which has its own consciousness.
What does that mean in practice? Sometimes, due to different stressors, an organ's innate consciousness may appear to be distorted, affecting its physiology or even structure. When a practitioner observes in a non-attached, non-judgemental manner, the act of observation allows for the shifts in the consciousness. This allows the organ re-arrange to a new consciousness and hence to a changed physiology or structure. Informing the client allows the client to be aware of their own belief system that may need to be adjusted. This ensures that the change is maintained and sustained.
BodyTalk is WholeHealthcare
WholeHealthcare means addressing the whole person and not just the symptoms. The ancient Vedas talk of our five bodies or layers. BodyTalk works on all the five layers or dimensions of our being - physical, energetic, emotional, intellectual and the way we access our spiritual self. The concept of these five dimensions is also at the root of the Map of Self Care presented in 2020 in my YouTube channel.
Today we are familiar with every place on earth being connected to every other place through network of digital communications. The same is true for our body and mind. Everything is connected to everything else. This can be powerful and overwhelming at the same time. Powerful, because, a small change in one area can improve our overall health and well-being.
Overwhelming, because we may not know what to focus on at this moment. Luckily, your innate knows what is needed by you right now.
Guided by Your Innate
Each session is customised for you by your innate wisdom. Your body-mind knows the sequence needed to bring about the healing. No one else in the world has that information. Hence the name of the system - BodyTalk.
The practitioner uses their intuitive mind to tap into what your innate wisdom is ready to shift in that session. The ethics of this interaction means that permission has to be received from the client before any session can be done. If the client is unable to give their permission (unborn babies, babies, children, very sick people, those in coma), then a care giver can grant permission on their behalf. In normal practice, filling up the intake form and/or booking an appointment is considered as permission given.
There is no Diagnosis
Most systems look at what is wrong and fix that. This leads to diagnosis - whether we look at instruments to test or energy tests. The problem with diagnosis is that they can be self-affirming, re-enforced by constant thinking of our self as a diabetic or a heart patient.
In BodyTalk, we do not focus on the problem. Instead the focus is on what the person is ready to shift. As we are interconnected beings, one small shift in a seemingly unrelated part of our body-mind can have a domino effect over time. This is especially true due to the cumulative nature of the sessions. Each session builds on the previous ones.
How can a client ensure they are ready to shift something?
- Trust their innate, be open and relaxed and go with the flow.
- All inner work (of any form or kind) prepares us for shifts in a session.
- When a session reveals a belief system, conscious reflection and awareness can help speed up inner shifts.
What is Your Story?
A symptom based approach means that everyone with the same symptom is treated in the same way. BodyTalk looks at the story behind the symptom (if it is relevant to the session) as each story is unique.
Looking at the big picture is built into the framework and allows one to tap into other modalities while still using the framework and its ability to identify the stories. That is what makes the system so powerful.
